UST and AST Compliance Services in Florida

Florida requires owners of regulated underground and aboveground storage tanks to inspect their systems every month and test key equipment every year under FDEP rules. Petro Compliance Services handles both, plus the records that prove it. For more than 25 years we have worked with Florida fuel facilities as a single compliance partner, so you are not coordinating separate vendors for inspections, testing and paperwork.

Monthly UST and AST compliance inspections

Our inspectors visit your site each month and walk the full tank system, looking for leaks, corrosion, damage and equipment that isn't working as it should. Each visit covers:

  • Tanks, piping and related equipment, checked visually for leaks, corrosion or damage
  • Sumps and containment areas
  • Dispensers and fill ports
  • Liquid sensors, pumps and alarms, confirmed to be operating
  • Maintenance and leak detection records, reviewed for gaps

When we find a problem, you hear about it promptly, not at the end of the month. Every inspection is written up in a report you can hand to an FDEP inspector.

Annual UST testing and equipment certification

Monthly inspections show what is visible. Annual compliance testing proves the equipment still works. Our technicians test and document:

  • Spill bucket testing — integrity testing of spill containment buckets using hydrostatic methods
  • Containment sump testing — hydrostatic integrity testing of tank-top and dispenser sumps
  • Overfill prevention inspection — automatic shutoff devices and ball float valves
  • Veeder-Root and ATG testing — inspection of automatic tank gauge operation
  • Liquid sensor testing — functional tests of interstitial and sump sensors
  • Line leak detector testing — performance testing of mechanical and electronic line leak detectors
  • Tank and line tightness testing — see Tank and Line Testing

Results go straight into your compliance file, so annual UST testing is documented the day it's done.

AST inspection in Florida

Aboveground storage tanks have their own inspection and testing obligations under FDEP rules. We inspect AST systems with the same monthly visual checks used for USTs — tank shell, piping, containment, alarms and records — and perform the applicable equipment testing for your AST configuration. Generator diesel tanks, fleet fueling tanks and other regulated ASTs are all covered.

Compliance records and account management

Passing a test is only half of compliance; FDEP also expects you to show the records. We manage that side for you:

  • Inspection and test reports kept on file and stored for you
  • Prompt notification of any deficiency found
  • A single point of contact who knows your site's history
  • Records ready to pull when an inspector asks

Compliance Services FAQ

How often do Florida USTs need to be inspected?

FDEP requires regulated UST systems to receive monthly visual inspections, with key equipment tested annually. Some components are tested on longer schedules depending on tank type and installation date. We set your schedule based on your actual equipment.

Do aboveground storage tanks need compliance inspections too?

Yes. Regulated ASTs in Florida have their own inspection and testing requirements. We inspect and test both USTs and ASTs.

What does annual UST testing include?

Typically spill bucket and sump integrity tests, overfill prevention checks, ATG operation, liquid sensor function, line leak detector performance and line tightness. The exact list depends on your system.

What happens if equipment fails a test?

We document the deficiency and notify you promptly so it can be corrected before it becomes a violation.

Do you keep my inspection and testing records?

Yes. We store your reports so they're available when FDEP requests them.
